The NZ Herald is reporting the Good Friday re enactment of the crucifixion of Jesus on Mangere Mountain in Auckland, New Zealand (map). This included the Stations of the Cross, whipping, and a crown of thorns. It appears that they didn’t put nails in his hands and feet or a spear is his side, and no earthquakes have been reported.
What do you think about this type of re enactment? Can you think of any relevant scriptures?

Reenactments are great if the purpose is for people to REMEMBER. I don’t believe that people have to punish themselves physically during the Holy Week. Jesus completed the Work two thousand years ago and His standing orders to us are to remember what he did and keep on remembering until He returns.
Please drop my by blog and check out photos of a Stations of the Cross (an installation art version) here in Manila. Thanks much for the chance to make a comment on your blog.

adventuresofabeautyqueen: your argument in favour of re enactments without physical harm for the purpose of remembrance has merit. What sort of re enactments do you see in the Philippines?

Here in the Philippines we have the Senakulo, a stageplay on the Passion of Christ. It’s a SAFE reenactment (LOLOLOL) and we also have the Stations of the Cross which is equally SAFE
Many special masses are held throughout the day.
However, there are a handful of devotees who actually go through a realistic reenactment where they flog themselves til they bleed, carry a heavy cross and are actually nailed to it. Last year a woman was one of the devotees.
When they are interviewed (and they get a lot of attention) they explain that they want to make up for their sins.
But I believe that Jesus is the final sacrifice for all the sins of mankind and his sacrifice was a complete and finished job.
Our job now is to go and sin no more… (easier said than done
