• Lincoln Cathedral plays anti-religious song “Imagine”

The BBC is reporting that Lincoln Liverpool Cathedral has played “Imagine” on its bells, a song written by John Lennon and described by him as anti-religious. Have a look at the lyrics below and you’ll see that it’s not an appropriate song for a church to be playing: it’s anti-religious, pro-Marxist, nihilistic propaganda.

When the Church is indistinguishable from the world around it those who are unhappy in that world have no reason to seek out the Church.

I am reminded of the fact that Charles Darwin is buried in Westminster Abbey. The Bride of the Lamb should not invite rapists into her home.

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

  1. I see little Nihilism in affirming a brotherhood of man. Humanist, by all means. Communism and Marxism are distinct and he might fall in between… Or he could easily be seen as a socialist anarchist as well. And Darwin was Agnostic, he was hardly one to say the Church should cease to exist, so calling him a rapist in any sense is giving him too much publicity and only making him vindicated against the attack on his character

    • muichimotsu:
      1) nihilism is about the rejection of values, as is this song
      2) Darwin did describe himself as an agnostic, but almost invariably agnostics are atheists who are too scared to say as much. If Darwin didn’t describe himself as an agnostic you’d believe that he was an antitheistic atheist. See http://creation.com/darwins-arguments-against-god
      3) I didn’t say that Darwin was a rapist, rather I was using an allegory that referred to anitheists in general. Jesus said that if you’re not for him you’re against him.

      • 1) The song rejects idealistic notions of perfection, it doesn’t reject all values.
        2) This is an unfair generalization regarding the nature of agnosticism. There are at least two forms of agnosticism, one which is based in epistemology and one which is based in ontology.
        3) So quoted by his followers, of course he’d say that from their perspective

  2. It’s Liverpool Cathedral, not Lincoln.
